Saudis Threaten to Retaliate Against Punitive Action Over Critic

Companies cut ties with Saudi Arabia over Jamal Khashoggi's disappearance

The comments came after US President Donald Trump said he would seek "severe punishment" against Saudi Arabia if the country was found to have murdered Khashoggi.

The American daily further reported that U.S. intelligence had intercepted communications between Saudi officials discussing a plan to lure Khashoggi back to the kingdom and detain him.

"The Saudi economy has vital and influential roles for the global economy".

Saudi Arabia has been under pressure since Khashoggi, a prominent critic of Riyadh and a US resident, disappeared on October 2 after entering the Saudi consulate in Istanbul.

The recordings show that a Saudi security team detained the Washington Post columnist Khashoggi, 59, in the consulate after he walked in on October 2 for paperwork before his upcoming wedding, then killed him and dismembered his body, the Post reported citing the officials.

Riyadh on Saturday dismissed accusations that authorities there had ordered Khashoggi be murdered by a hit squad inside its Istanbul consulate as "lies and baseless allegations".

Mr Trump has said his administration won a $110 billion military order from Saudi Arabia and that the deal, combined with Saudi commitments to invest heavily in the United States, was worth hundreds of thousands of USA jobs.

"I am planning on going at this point".

Earlier this month, Trump suggested Saudi Arabia's king "might not be there for two weeks" without US military support.

"This is happening at a time when Saudi Arabia is preparing for a big investment event and they don't need people suspending or pulling out investments", said Nadi Barghouti, head of asset management at Emirates Investment Bank in Dubai.

However they have not presented any evidence to corroborate their claim and say that video cameras at the consolate were not recording at the time.

A representative from Apple, however, confirmed the watches do not have fingerprint entry features, CNN reported on Saturday.

The writer, an advocate for reform and a thorn in the side of the country's autocratic Crown Prince Mohammad bin Salman, left Saudi Arabia a year ago over fears for his safety.

Saudi intelligence noticed the watch on Khashoggi's wrist "and tried to erase some files", the paper said.

Saudi officials have denied any involvement in the disappearance of Khashoggi, saying he left the consulate shortly after entering.

" Boeing, Lockheed, Raytheon -all these companies-I don't want to hurt jobs".

Khashoggi, a Washington Post contributor, has been missing since Oct 2, when he reportedly visited the Saudi Consulate in Istanbul to secure divorce papers.

"I don't think we should continue as business as usual until we know exactly what's happened here".

The UK and U.S. are considering boycotting a Saudi-backed conference set to take place later this month in Riyadh as a result of the disappearence and alleged murder of journalist Jamal Khashoggi, the BBC has reported.

By selling weapons to Saudi Arabia, Washington hoped to prevent the kingdom from turning to Russian Federation, which has been courting closer ties with the Gulf's Arab countries as it seeks to expand its role in the Middle East.

Those policies are all seen as initiatives of the crown prince, who has also presided over a roundup of activists and businessmen.
