With Jay Ajayi Done, the Eagles Should Trade for Le'Veon Bell

Eagles RB Jay Ajayi to miss rest of season with torn ACL

Jay Ajayi's season-ending injury means that the Philadelphia Eagles could be in the market for a running back.

McCoy spent his first 6 seasons as a member of the Eagles and would possibly love to leave a rebuilding franchise in Buffalo for a team coming off a Super Bowl win.

The team was fairly cap strapped, but with Fletcher Cox's contract reworked, the Eagles now have about $11 million in cap space, according to Spotrac. However, a recent report indicates that they are not planning to pursue a trade for the Steelers' disgruntled star. In the midst of a rebuild, keeping a 30-year old running back around doesn't quite fit that plan. Ajayi criticized the Eagles' playcalling against Minnesota following Sunday's loss, upset over Philadelphia's 17 carries compared to 35 passing attempts.

We used the tweet from Eagles writer Jimmy Kempski because just after sending this he tweeted (and deleted) this move could give credence to rumors about Philadelphia being interested in a trade for Bell. Those players include Corey Clement, Wendell Smallwood, Darren Sproles and Josh Adams, all of whom have already seen playing time this season. By using so-called Not Likely to Be Earned Incentives, the Eagles could dangle significant extra compensation to Bell for 2018 based on workload and performance, which then would hit the cap in 2019.

Could LeSean McCoy be heading back to Philadelphia?
