Assassin's Creed Odyssey Is Playable Right Through Chrome, If Google Picks You

AC ODyssey 2

It shows Assassin's Creed Odyssey running at 60 frames per second at 1080p with no apparent game lag.

Google's focus on cloud-centric technologies is nothing new.

If you're interested in participating in the Project Stream test, you can apply right here.

One of the perks of being a tester (besides being one of the first people to use what could very well be the future of gaming) will be the ability to play Assassin's Creed Odyssey on launch day - October 5, 2018 - for free. The point of the test is to deliver the game at a high graphical fidelity with low latency.

The blog post makes it clear that this is just the beginning of a more substantial initiative which will see Google throw its hat into the ring in the gaming market.

Google announced Project Stream today, which allows Google Chrome users to stream video games.

'The idea of streaming such graphically-rich content that requires near-instant interaction between the game controller and the graphics on the screen poses a number of challenges, ' it revealed.

The Project Stream test will involve streaming Ubisoft's Assassin's Creed Odyssey to desktop-class Chrome browsers, which means it will work on Windows, macOS, Linux, and ChromeOS.

Google said anyone wanting to try the service needs a home internet connections 'capable of 25 megabits per second'.

In 2014, the company reportedly planned to buy Twitch, a live streaming video platform popular with gamers before Amazon beat them to it. Looking at Sony, its PlayStation Now service hasn't sat well with most players, which has led to them allowing for a select number of games to be downloadable to a person's hard drive, which is not much different than Xbox Game Pass.

Google made the announcement of this private test on its own blog along with a partnership with Ubisoft to christen the service with the brand-new Assassin's Creed Odyssey.
