Kawhi Leonard Keeping an 'Open Mind' About Toronto

Nurse excited for Kawhi collaboration: They guard the s**t out of people

DeMar DeRozan wasn't happy when he got sent to the San Antonio Spurs by Toronto in the deal that saw the Raptors land Kawhi Leonard.

Speaking at press conference unveiling, Leonard said he had no regrets about his trade to the Raptors. "You know by winning games, this is how you get star-caliber players to want to come here and play".

The Toronto Raptors are sick of being perceived as a team that National Basketball Association players don't want to play for. I want to do great things. focus on this year.

Leonard said. "Throughout the summer I worked on my body".

The usually reserved Leonard also attempted to offer the crowded a room a little insight about himself.

"I look at it as a day-to-day process", he said. "I mean there's more questions you have to ask me in order for me to tell you about myself". "I can't give you a spiel about me". "I don't even know where you're sitting". "... my focus is on this year, this group that I have, and striving to get to a championship".

"If you look into the future, you'll trip over the present".

And that whole exit from San Antonio seemed messy.

DeRozan's departure wasn't the only big offseason change in Toronto.

New Raptors coach Nick Nurse said he had no conversations with the Spurs about what went wrong last season.

"He can guard smalls and bigs and he can score in and out", Nurse said.

Leonard can become an unrestricted National Basketball Association free agent next July, giving rise to concerns he'll just be a one-year rental for the Raptors.

If Leonard of all people can say that loud and clear, who are we not to listen? "On paper, our team has gotten better from behind the line".

Leonard's first words as a Raptor, delivered with a stony face that made them unintentionally deadpan and became instantly meme-worthy were: "I'm a fun guy". My mindset never changes: "Come to work for the Toronto Raptors, try to win a gold ball".
