Liverpool boss Jurgen Klopp admits Xherdan Shaqiri could start against Southampton

"Wow, that's a crisis", said Klopp sarcastically at his press conference on the eve of their Premier League clash with Southampton.

"I am fine with him, I think he is fine with me and the situation".

"On the defensive side the last two games were outstanding, ideal from him", the boss said. "But I guarantee, if you ask the Liverpool players who play behind him when he goes through in a one-on-one they'll say he'll take it all day long".

But divisive contrarian Joey Barton has some criticism for Reds supporters as the Fleetwood Town manager, who is not afraid to voice a dissenting opinion, claims that the reason for Liverpool's Premier League trophy drought is down to the fact that the club's fans only give their all on European nights. So, the start was good for us as a team and for him as well.

"Salah is ready to work for the team and it is normal that sometimes he doesn't score", Klopp said. But he is still a threat, had fantastic situations in both games and he is in good shape.

Southampton have won one and drawn two of their first five matches and, having surrendered a two-goal lead in their draw with Brighton and Hove Albion on Monday, will have to step up their game to get anything at Anfield. It wasn't like he finished last season, but he needed time last year and he will take time this year. "I don't want to play mind games, this side is built for winning the Champions League".

Xherdan Shaqiri could make his first Premier League start after Jurgen Klopp admitted to making a "mistake" in how he has handled the Liverpool midfielder. "The rest will follow", said Klopp. "He looks really fit".

"He had, for sure, moments like this, but he's such a positive [person]". But he will always be a very important part of the squad because of the guy he is.

"It's going to be a big test for us, we understand that but we are on a decent run".
