Man City coach Arteta warns rivals

Así vivió Guardiola la derrota de su City

Mikel Arteta believes Manchester City have the best players in the world and should be among the favourites for the Champions League this season.

"But that means we're doing things really well".

With the suspended City manager Pep Guardiola forced to watch from the stands, Fekir the made it 2-0 to the French side in the 43rd minute with a sweetly struck drive after being set-up by Memphis Depay. "That happens nearly every half-time, it is not a new thing, we just had to try and improve what we were doing".

The Premier League outfit remained in the ascendancy with John Stones heading over from a corner and Sergio Aguero being denied from distance, but Lyon continued to pose a threat on the counter. "We started quite slowly, we lost too many duels and twice in the first half we gave away the ball in risky areas and allowed Lyon to score both times".

"I'm privileged to be where I am in football right now", Arteta added.

"For me, we have the best players in the world", Arteta said. "If you ask me the question, one day in the future I will be a coach and the answer is probably yes but I am really happy where I am and really enjoying the moment I am living".

"It has to be Real Madrid [as favourites], they have something special in this competition", he said.

Guardiola is serving a touchline ban for coming on to the pitch to remonstrate with the referee during his side's quarter-final defeat by Liverpool last season, but Arteta is determined to do his best to make sure the manager's absence is not felt. We lost many duels and at this level you pay the price for that.

"You can't say what would have happened had Pep been around, it's completely hypothetical", Arteta said. But I think it is a very open Champions League - like it was last season but it will be again.

Although Guardiola's role will be heavily restricted on Wednesday, Arteta confirmed that City's build-up to their Group F opener had been no different than usual.
