Umpire Carlos Ramos issues first code violation since Serena Williams furore
The umpires feel that Ramos was "thrown to the wolves for simply doing his job and was not willing to be abused for it".
The 23-time Grand Slam champion wasn't asked about gender equality in sports or an argument she had last weekend with the chair umpire at her U.S. Open finals match in NY during about 25 minutes onstage with Sarah Robb O'Hagan, chief executive of Flywheel Sports, at the National Retail Federation trade show.
She also moved to excuse Williams' behaviour during an interview with ESPN the following day when she suggested Williams would not have expected her outburst towards Ramos to have been captured on live TV.
This is a bulls***, for umpires being women or men doesn't matter.
Speaking to Tribuna Expresso earlier this week in his native country, Ramos indicated he was at peace with his decisions because he didn't pick and choose when to apply the rule book. I think it's an opportunity now for them to speak up on those technical issues like coaching - do they want it? I have respect for him and all I ask is for that to be reciprocated. Why is it okay for them to question umpires when it's not okay for Serena to do the same? There are some who like to take part in the matches more and who like to put more pressure on than others. Later, in the post-match conference, Williams said that there was a double standard in handing punishment to players. After the match, Djokovic brought the subject up again with reporters.
"I just thought I shouldn't have any regrets. If it's like this, let me know".
Ramos has also been accused of grandstanding.
The third violation - verbal abuse - came when she called the umpire a "thief".
"In comparison, I never saw (Rafael) Nadal shouting like that with an umpire".
Williams's sister, Venus, has a history with Ramos too. In addition, Nissan will support her activities as a tennis player, including the provision of Nissan vehicles at her tour destinations. Like her sister, Venus denied she had cheated.
"Sometimes it might seem like things always happen, but you just kind of have to try to realise that it's coincidence".
Ramos was due to officiate on Friday in the Davis Cup match between Croatia and the United States in Zadar.
In a second tweet, King said: "When a woman is emotional, she's "hysterical" and she's penalised for it". When a man does the same, he's "outspoken" and there are no repercussions.
Serena Williams talked about her fashion business, not tennis fouls, during an appearance before a business convention in Las Vegas.
We need to forget about it because Williams has achieved so much.
