Tesla's chief accountant quits after one month on the job (TSLA)

Shares of electric auto maker Tesla have fallen more than 6 per cent after company CEO Elon Musk smoked marijuana during a podcast interview and the company's accounting chief left after a month on the job.

"Since I joined Tesla on August 6th, the level of public attention placed on the company, as well as the pace within the company, have exceeded my expectations", Morton said in the filing.

"As a result, this caused me to reconsider my future".

The departures came after CEO Elon Musk gave a wide-ranging, almost three-hour interview to podcast host Joe Rogan and addressed topics ranging from his job at Tesla to the the end of the world.

During the podcast interview, Rogan asks Musk about his 1961 Jaguar E-Type, the Boring company and.shares a smoke with Musk.

Musk, seemingly referencing former president Bill Clinton, went to Twitter to say that to say, "remember, I did not inhale".

After Musk announced August 7 that he meant to take Tesla private at $420 a share, there was speculation that the billionaire was referring to marijuana when he tweeted because "420" is a coded reference for marijuana.

Late Friday evening, Tesla announced an executive reshuffling, after a month or more of chaos within the company.

Even before the announcement of Morton's departure, the company's shares were already seeing a slight decline in Friday's pre-market trading as reports of Elon Musk's behavior in a podcast with comedian Joe Rogan emerged.

Whatever the case, giving a person like Elon Musk weed to discuss the probability of a simulation will undoubtedly lead to an interesting conversation.

However, during an interview for The New York Times, Mr. Musk criticized the use of the drug while denying it had anything to do with attempting to take Tesla private. Rogan said, as he lit what appeared to be a joint on camera. Marijuana is legal in California, where the interview took place.

"I'm getting text messages from friends saying, 'What the hell are you doing smoking weed?'" he said.

Accounting officer Dave Morton's resignation was announced in an official filing with United States regulator the Securities and Exchange Commission.

The 47-year-old billionaire later said he wasn't a "regular smoker" of marijuana because he doesn't find it "very good for productivity".

Some Wall Street analysts are again calling for Tesla to appoint another senior leader for the company to take the pressure off Elon Musk, or rein in his control. Since the start of the year, 41 executives have left, according to CNBC.

In July, Musk raised eyebrows when he accused British diver Vern Unsworth - who aided in the rescue of 12 boys and their coach in Thailand cave this summer - of being a "pedo" or pedophile in a tweet.
