Yankees land McCutchen from Giants for 2 prospects

MLB Rumors: Yankees Acquire Andrew McCutchen In Deal With Giants

McCutchen came into the league as a center fielder, though he has exclusively played right field this season. With Judge's status up in the air, the Yankees reportedly are doing everything they can to bolster their outfield before September 1.

While the New York Yankees are not anxious that Aaron Judge won't make it back to the field at all, whether he'll be 100% when the playoffs come around has come into question recently, and on Thursday evening, the Yankees snapped up the best insurance option available, trading for Andrew McCutchen from the San Francisco Giants. WFAN baseball insider Ken Rosenthal reported that the Giants have agreed to pay half of the $2.4 million McCutchen is owed for the rest of this season.

McCutchen, the 2013 National League MVP, is a free agent at the end of the season.

The Yankees are still without outfielder and 2017 American League Rookie of the Year Aaron Judge as he recovers from a broken bone in his wrist.

McCutchen is not yet with the Yankees - he traveled from San Francisco to NY on Friday and is expected to be in Saturday's lineup - but he did get a head start on conforming to team rules. While the 31-year-old McCutchen is far from the form that saw him make five-straight All-Star Game appearances, he's still a competent veteran bat.

McCutchen, who was traded to the Giants in the offseason, is hitting.255 this season with 15 home runs and 55 RBIs.

In order for a player to be eligible for a team's postseason run, trades must be final by Friday.

McCutchen is making $14.75 million this season, but the Pittsburgh Pirates picked up $2.5 million of that in the trade that sent him to San Francisco.

Avelino, the 23rd-ranked prospect in the Yankees organization, according to MLB.com, is hitting.287 with 15 home runs between Double-A and Triple-A this season.
