Serena Williams moves into third round, will take on sister Venus

US Open Camila Giorgi Venus Williams top off Alize Cornet

We would rather have met later.

Serena leads their head-to-head 17-9.

Both have been ranked No. 1.

Williams, a 23-time Grand Slam singles victor, said in May she wore the outfit to help her cope with blood clots.

"It's incredible what they've done". Obviously there's been other siblings that have had fantastic careers in tennis, but none anywhere close to what they've managed to achieve.

Two other past men's champions won - Juan Martin del Potro, who beat Dennis Kudla of the US, and Stan Wawrinka - as did 2017 runner-up Kevin Anderson, and No. 11 seed John Isner.

The precociously-talented Serena Williams then throws a tennis ball in the air, and looks set to launch a serve.

"It's early in the tournament, so both of us are going to be looking forward to continuing to play better, " Venus said. "It's definitely a tough draw".

On Friday, Serena and Venus Williams will face off for the 30th time on the tennis court when they meet at the U.S. Open at Flushing Meadows.

"I think when I was 5 years old, that's when I think I started liking it a lot", says Venus in the video, which is now going viral. Of the 82 points that went Venus's way, only 13 came via her own winners. In terms of winners and unforced errors, this translates to 30 winners and 10 unforced errors for Williams and 10 winners and 15 unforced errors for the German.

The ad even shows a jubilant Richard Williams celebrating his daughter's modern-day success, and when Serena Williams spots him in the crowd, she immediately celebrates too. Serena, after having a child, and Venus, playing for so many years in such a high level, it's very rare that you can see that in sports.

"I just kind of had to weather the storm and wait for my opportunities".

Alize Cornet of France returned from a break in action during her match Tuesday with her shirt on backward.

The USTA admitted they were wrong to hand Cornet a warning for slipping off her shirt on court after realising she had put the garment on back-to-front during a heat break.

Serena Williams of the United States of America hits to Carina Witthoeft of Germany in a second round match on day three of the 2018 U.S. Open tennis tournament at USTA Billie Jean King National Tennis Center.
