All affected customers have been, or shortly will be, notified, said the company.
US wireless network operator T-Mobile has alerted its users of possible leak of their private information in a security breach discovered a few days ago.
The good thing is that no financial data or Social Security numbers or passwords were taken but some personal information may have been exposed such as your name, billing information, phone number, and email address. If you don't receive a text from T-Mobile by day's end, you're likely in the clear.
T-Mobile said the breach, which its cybersecurity team identified and shutdown earlier this week, exposed some personal information and encrypted passwords. That's tragic in and of itself, really. "T-Mobile serves as a laudable example of a prompt incident response", says High-Tech Bridge, CEO, Ilia Kolochenko.
In the modern times of digital data and information sharing, nobody is fully protected by a data breach.
The breach happened on August 20, and the company claims to have quickly discovered and shut down the unauthorized access to customer information.
T-Mobile immediately contacted customers who are believed to be affected by the data breach. The T-Mobile breach was nowhere near the scale of these other big hacks, but some experts say we should get used to companies of all kinds getting attacked.
"We truly regret that this incident occurred and are so sorry for any inconvenience this has caused you", the statement concluded.
In a bid to circumvent any panic among its users, the company offered up a dedicated number for them to call if they have any questions about the incident or their accounts.
