Fans and rivals alike are calling out Marlins' pitcher Jose Urena for taking record-bound Braves Ronald Acuña out of the game with a 97 miles per hour fastball to the elbow. Acuna was previously listed as day-to-day by the Braves on Thursday. Acuña had been absolutely destroying Miami, leading off each of the previous three games with a home run and carrying a five-game home run streak into the contest. "That's a shame. This young man is just playing the game, doing what he loves to do".
The first pitch of the night to Ronald Acuña Jr. But he's not changing his mind about what he believes was Urena's right to pitch inside to Acuna after Acuna homered in five straight games.
The training staff signed off on Acuna returning to lineup after a CT scan on his elbow was normal.
Miami Marlins pitcher Jose Urena unleashed a 97 miles per hour fastball to open the game against Acuna. However, having initially stayed in the game, Acuna's injured left arm forced him to leave the field in the top of the second inning, and it remains to be seen how much more time he misses.
"I don't understand it", he said, via ESPN.com.
"That kid didn't deserve that. That was incredibly classless on Jose Urena's part".
Braves: RHP Julio Teheran (8-7, 4.33) will look to continue his success against the Rockies in Thursday night's opener of a four-game series. From there, the situation escalated into a benches-clearing situation as the Braves clearly felt there were bad intentions behind the Urena's pitch. The 20-year-old Acuna entered the game on a rare power streak.
Urena has a history of control problems. He hit two homers in Tuesday night's 10-6 win over the Marlins. He tied for the major league lead with 14 hit batters in 2017.
