U.S. ambassador urges United Kingdom to pull out of Iran nuclear deal

Back us not Brussels on Iran, US ambassador tells Theresa May as he warns British businesses will lose trade

He also added that Iranians have no expectations from Trump after the U.

Johnson's comments come less than a week after the Trump administration on Tuesday reimposed a raft of sanctions on Iran that affect, among other things, the purchase or acquisition of United States dollars by the Iranian government, the country's auto industry and trade in gold or precious metals.

Accusing Iran of "squandering its money on proxy wars and malign activities overseas", US Ambassador Woody Johnson's op-ed in the Sunday Telegraph asked the UK to "use its considerable diplomatic power and influence" to join the US "as a united front" in its effort to secure "a genuinely comprehensive agreement" on Iran ending its nuclear program. "We are asking global Britain to use its considerable diplomatic power and influence and join us".

Iran will soon receive a second batch of 20 percent-enriched uranium which has been kept in Russian Federation under the 2015 nuclear deal and now will be used at the Tehran nuclear reactor, the spokesman for the Atomic Energy Organization of Iran (AEOI) said on Saturday. The punitive measures, a follow-up to the USA decision in early May to withdraw from the 2015 Iran nuclear deal, restrict Iranian access to U.S. currency, gold, and other precious materials.

A week ago Britain signed on to a joint statement with other EU countries that pledged to press on with a strategy to lessen the impact of the USA sanctions on European businesses. "It is a commercial decision for companies whether they continue to work in Iran".

"We made it clear that we regard the nuclear deal as an important part of the region's security".

The US ambassador to London has said the United Kingdom should join Donald Trump in adopting a hardline attitude towards Iran. On the same day sanctions were reimposed, German carmaker Daimler announced it had suspended its activities in Iran "until further notice according to applicable sanctions".

On Monday, Trump ordered all nuclear-related sanctions that were removed under the deal to be reinstated immediately.
