Omarosa Manigault Newman, the ex-Apprentice contestant who served as the director of communications for the Office of Public Liaison previous year, revealed on Meet the Press Sunday that she had recorded White House Chief of Staff John Kelly firing her. Manigault Newman, who previously appeared on Trump's The Apprentice, later announced plans for a tell-all book.
Asked if she had broken the law, he replied: "She's certainly violating national security regulations, which I think have the force of law".
But Manigault Newman now says she was "used" by Trump, calling him a "con" who "has been masquerading as someone who is actually open to engaging with diverse communities" and is "truly a racist".
The deputy press secretary also refuted her claims that Mr. Kelly holds the real power in the White House. He also recalled her begging for a job in the White House.
Trump seemed to suggest she was pretty smart back in 2013. "The fact that she was recording a conversation in there, really, raises alarm bells in the minds of people who have worked in that room". "I told him to try working it out, if possible, because she only said GREAT things about me - until she got fired!".
Omarosa was best known for her appearances on "The Apprentice" and its sister shows starring then-businessman Donald Trump.
In the days before the release of her book, which she claims is a tell-all about the corruption of Trump's White House, Manigault-Newman has revealed tapes she secretly recorded during her time as an aide.
"She never made it, never will", the president tweeted.
In it, Trump claimed to be oblivious of her dismissal by Chief of Staff, John Kelly, and expressed regrets at the news.
Omarosa Manigault Newman said she made a decision to release the secret recording of John Kelly in the Situation Room - which marks a breach of security protocols - and recorded conversations with Trump because "this is a White House where everybody lies". Traditionally chiefs of staff do handle hiring and firing in the White House.
"If I did not have this recording, people would still believe the false story that I was running around the White House".
Manigault-Newman's character "has been impugned beyond measure", Gidley said.
"She wore that jacket to hurt Trump, setting off a controversy that he would have to fix, prolonging the conversation about the administration's insensitivity, ruining the trip itself, and trying to make sure that no one asked her to do something like that again."
This has raised significant concerns about security in the White House, given that recording devices are not typically allowed in the Situation Room where this particular recording was created. He didn't read the PDB (President's Daily Brief) aloud and then fire her.
Here's what he said at September 2016 rally in OH (with emphases added): "Don't leave Omarosa - she's a wonderful woman - don't leave".
"No ... I, I, nobody even told me about it", the president responds. "You can tell from the tape, he thought she resigned", Giuliani said on "Fox and Friends".
"They were not offering me a real job", Manigault Newman said on NBC.
