Pop star Demi Lovato rushed to hospital after apparent heroin overdose

Demi Lovato

Emergency officials confirm they transported a 25-year-old woman who lives on Demi Lovato's block to the hospital amid reports that the pop star suffered a drug overdose.

A representative for the Los Angeles Police Department confirmed to HuffPost that there was a medical emergency at an address in the Hollywood Hills on Tuesday morning, but would not confirm the identity of the patient.

Meanwhile, Demi's reps told ET in a statement: "Demi is awake and with her family who want to express thanks to everyone for the love, prayers and support".

Of course, this isn't Lovato's first brush with substance abuse, as she's struggled with it for a long time and even relapsed quite recently after six years of sobriety.

After relapsing, she continued to be honest with her fan base and so, in June, she released Sober, in an attempt to educate people on how it is a constant battle.

Ellen DeGeneres said the news broke her heart.

The singer has been open about her struggles with addiction in the past.

Demi revealed in a documentary entitled Simply Complicated in October past year, that her substance abuse started at the age of 17 when she first took cocaine. In 2010, she entered treatment, where she was treated for bipolar disorder, bulimia, self-harm and addiction. "All of us love her and need to pray for her to get well", Demi's former Future Now touring partner, Nick, wrote to his fans on Twitter. The singer is thought to have been taken ill on Tuesday afternoon, although her condition is not yet known.

Following the TMZ report, several celebrities, including many fellow musicians, tweeted their urgent well wishes.

According to Entertainment Tonight, her last appearance was Sunday at the California Mid-State Fair, where she performed alongside Iggy Azalea.

They included Ariana Grande, Brad Paisley, Lily Allen, Meghan Trainor and Ruby Rose.

She added: "I was either craving drugs or on drugs".
