Pop musician Demi Lovato has been hospitalised after what appears to be a heroin overdose, TMZ reports.

Law enforcement sources told TMZ, which was first to report the news, that Lovato, who was found unconscious, was treated with Narcan - a medication created to rapidly reverse opioid overdose - at her home before being transported to a local hospital.

TMZ was the first to report that Lovato had been hospitalized for a drug overdose, based on its sources, and other outlets including People magazine also reported that her hospitalization based on sources.

The news came about a month after Lovato released a song called Sober, in which she alludes to relapsing from sobriety.

Demi has been open about her struggles with cocaine and alcohol in the past. On Sunday, the singer's "Tell Me You Love Me World Tour" touched down in Paso Robles, California, for a stop at the 2018 California Mid-State Fair. Her song is intense, but that's how she deals. Lovato often speaks about how important her fans are to her.

Lovato has been candid about her battle with addiction. Their source didn't disclose what drug she overdosed on but it was reported previously that she was administered Narcan, a substance used to reverse the effects of opioids.

The Los Angeles Police Department would confirm only that officers responded around 11:40 a home in the 8000 block of Laurel View Drive in Hollywood for what was described as a medical emergency. "I'm so sorry. I'm not sober anymore", she sings in the tune.
