US President Donald Trump said he apologised to Prime Minister Theresa May today over his bombshell interview with a British tabloid, in which he claimed she had ignored his advice on Brexit and praised former Foreign Secretary Boris Johnson's potential as a possible premier.
Trump's interview with the British tabloid "The Sun" - in which he knocked May's "soft Brexit" compromise and boosted a rival within her own party - published Thursday and dealt a stunning diplomatic affront for a visiting United States president.
"As he said in his interview with the Sun she "is a very good person" and he "never said anything bad about her". "Because when I saw her this morning I said I want to apologize 'I want to apologize because, I said such good things about you.' She said, 'don't worry, it was only the press.' I thought that was very professional".
Last week at the same location, May finally won agreement for her Brexit strategy from her cabinet but within days, two senior ministers quit, which Trump said earlier in the week had left Britain in turmoil.
Opponents of Donald Trump flew a six-meter blimp depicting the US president as an orange, snarling nappy-wearing baby just outside the British parliament on Friday.
As they spoke, thousands of protesters marched against Trump through central London, one of more than 100 demonstrations planned against the president during his four-day visit. "I think they agree with me on immigration", he told media from Brussels on Thursday.
"The United States looks forward to finalizing a great bilateral trade deal" with the U.K., Trump said.
"I don't know what you're going to do, but whatever you do is OK with us".

May's office said it would not comment on The Sun article during a greeting when Trump met May at the Royal Military Academy Sandhurst to review a military exercise.
"I used to love London as a city", Trump said. "A great job. And I mean that", Trump said.
In the interview, which took place at the U.S. Embassy in Brussels, the president also lashed out at the Muslim mayor of London, saying he had done "a awful job". On Friday he travels to Windsor Castle, about 22 miles west of London, to meet with Queen Elizabeth II.
She is our Prime Minister.
"I am not pitting one against the other", Trump said of Johnson and May. "The real reason Trump blames my friend @SadiqKhan for the terror attacks previous year is simple", he tweeted.
