Health of remaining 5 inside Thai cave "still good" -…

British caver Vernon Unsworth gets out of a pick up truck near the Tham Luang cave complex

Rescue workers in Thailand on Monday brought four boys safely out of a labyrinthine flooded cave complex where a 12-member soccer squad and their coach were trapped for more than two weeks, taking the total number rescued to eight.

The boys, aged 11 to 17, and their 25-year-old instructor became trapped underground on June 23 after heavy rains flooded chambers in Tham Luang cave.

Chief of the rescue mission, Narongsak Osottanakorn, declined to comment on the identity of the four people brought out in the evening, saying updates would be supplied at a news conference that is scheduled to be held late on Monday.

The dramatic and unsafe rescue at the Tham Luang cave in the northern province of Chiang Rai was launched on Sunday and four boys were brought out that day.

The mission to save the last 4 members of a Thai soccer team and their coach, who have been trapped in a cave for more than two weeks, has begun.

As with the previous rescue efforts, 19 divers have gone into the cave, with two divers escorting each of the boys out of the cave with tethers.

"The kids are footballers so they have high immune systems", Jedsada said.

Rescued schoolboys are moved from a military helicopter to an awaiting ambulance at a military airport in Chiang Rai, Thailand, July 9, 2018.

Still, health officials were wary of possible infections "because we have never experienced this kind of issue from a deep cave".

The rescue missions take almost half a day to complete.

Eight boys have been rescued so far while the remaining four boys and their coach still remained trapped in the cave.

Information on the rescue operation, the health of those rescued - and their identities - has been tightly guarded by Thai authorities.

The path to save the boys proved to be life-threatening as one of the volunteer divers, an ex-Thai Navy SEALs, died while on the rescue mission. "But we will manage to get them a TV for that [watching the World Cup final]".

The SpaceX and Tesla founder developed and tested a "kid-sized" submarine that he suggested might be able to assist with the rescue.

In a series of tweets in the past few days, Musk chronicled the development of his custom-built mini-sub.

The boys rescued Sunday are recovering in a nearby hospital and had not yet seen their parents.

The soccer team first made contact with rescuers from the United Kingdom last Monday.

Chiang Rai province's acting governor, Narongsak Osatanakorn, who is in charge of the rescue, voiced confidence Monday in the ongoing operation, provided the weather doesn't take a turn for the worse.
