A survivor from the deadly multi-car crash in DE that killed four daughters and their father on Friday has credited his seat belt with saving his life.
Police said the family was riding in a minivan along SR 1 near Townsend when a southbound work truck crossed the median for unknown reasons and hit the northbound minivan and another auto.
Audie Trinidad and daughters Kaitlyn, 20; Danna, 17; and twins Melissa and Allison, 13, died in the minivan. The wife and mother, identified as 53-year-old Mary Rose, survived the crash and was taken to a hospital with serious injuries.
The truck driver, a 44-year-old Maryland man, was treated and released from the hospital.
Kern, a 24-year-old from Bethlehem, Pennsylvania, was on his way home from a week-long vacation at the time.
Police said the investigation into the cause of the crash is ongoing. "But I'm a paramedic as well and I'm the only first responder there".

An off-duty firefighter who witnessed the crash said the utility truck had crossed the median and struck another vehicle before the family's minivan plowed into its side.
Audi's brother, Daniel Trinidad, told The New York Post that the family was devastated over the sudden loss. Both parents were wearing seat belts.
People close to the family have since created a GoFundMe page that has raised more than $162,000 to help cover funeral costs and Mary Rose's medical bills. "They're all gone, gone". "I am not sure she'll be able to even stay at this house without her husband and kids".
Hundreds are remembering the Trinidad family in Teaneck, New Jersey with prayers and candles.
