Donald Trump Gets Dose Of Dutch Bluntness From Visiting Prime Minister

A routine White House photo-op took an unusual turn on Monday when Dutch Prime Minister Mark Rutte interrupted President Donald Trump and then contradicted him on tariffs and trade. Trump is also threatening to impose tariffs on vehicles.

Trump was meeting with Rutte in the Oval Office, where the two leaders were expected to discuss next week's North Atlantic Treaty Organisation meetings in Brussels.

The Chamber is a traditional ally of Trump's Republican Party and said the White House is risking a global trade war. And if we do work it out, that'll be positive.

The Trump administration garnered criticism for harsh tariffs on steel and aluminum imports from Canada, Mexico and the European Union, which resulted in upsetting centuries long allies of the U.S.

The issue is controversial within the Dutch cabinet, where coalition partner D66 has strong reservations about Trump's travel ban on citizens from selected Muslim countries.

Rutte turned to Trump, bewildered and asking "Is it always like this?"

Canadian Prime Minister Justin Trudeau predicted "robust discussions" on trade. Trump has requested his Commerce Department study whether to impose additional tariffs on cars, trucks and auto parts imported from Europe and other foreign markets, prompting a warning from the European Union that such an action could lead to retaliation involving some $300 billion in USA goods. "We have to work something out". We're going to see more people suffering, and we're going to see more world leaders looking at Donald Trump like the idiot that he is, because they know how to govern. Rutte asked Pres Trump, clearly in disbelief at the lack of decorum. "We have a very close relationship".
