Liverpool deal to sign Nabil Fekir collapses as Lyon end negotiations

Nabil Fekir is soon to be a Red

A source told ESPN FC on Thursday that Liverpool were confident about securing a €60 million deal for the France worldwide, despite earlier comments from Lyon president Jean-Michel Aulas that no transfer would be concluded before the World Cup.

The French FA President's comments were music to the ears of the Liverpool faithful."He's in the middle of negotiations and I think it's done", Le Graet said.

The Reds were expected to complete a deal for the 24-year-old former Saint-Priest frontman.

However, several reliable British journalists have alluded to the fact that Liverpool tried to renegotiate a fee after picking up on an underlying knee injury during the player's medical and Lyon grew frustrated with the way negotiations were headed.

The Lyon forward was said to be close to finalising his move to Anfield on Thursday night with an announcement due on Friday.

Translation: "We love you Nabil". Listen, they're prepared to sell him, so they're prepared to take money.

Although Fekir's playing style can be compared to Southampton's Sofiane Boufal, the Frenchman is way more accurate and efficient when it comes to his dribbling and overall ball distribution in the final third.

The Reds are looking to build a team capable of challenging for the Premier League title next season after their fifth-placed finish this term.

Fekir came off the bench for France against the United States of America on Saturday evening.

"He did things that nobody had been doing on the field".

"Hey, Liverpool, just get it done".

However, it does not look likely that any deal for Fekir will happen whilst France are in the World Cup, with Fekir being named as part of the 23 man squad that will play in Russian Federation.

Le Graet has revealed he has spent time with Fekir since the confusion over his switch from Lyon and he remains calm.

With Nabil Fekir-to-Liverpool all but done, Julien Laurens describes what kind of player he is and where he'd be best suited in Jurgen Klopp's XI.
