Vladimir Putin says Russian Federation does not want to split the European Union

Inauguration of Russian President Vladimir Putin

Russian President Vladimir Putin on Monday signed into law counter-sanctions legislation that was drawn up by lawmakers in response to USA sanctions imposed on Russia in April.

On Tuesday, Russian President Vladimir Putin expressed gratitude to Austria's leader Alexander Van der Bellen and Chancellor Sebastian Kurz for the friendly and open atmosphere during his visit to Vienna.

Mr Putin accused the United States of "trying to upset strategic parity" and said this should prompt other countries to get together to work out a new system of European security.

The troops "will stay there for as long as it is to Russia's advantage, and to fulfill our global responsibilities", Putin said during his annual televised call-in show on Thursday. "This in my view is very important - at this level a mutual respect has to exist in all circumstances, and a personal relationship can become a tool for solving global issues", said the Russian President.

The Hill reports that official White House statements put the number of calls between the two at eight Trump took office.

The Russian president issued a stern warning to Ukraine not to undertake any attacks on Moscow-backed separatists in the eastern part of the country during the upcoming soccer World Cup.

"We apparently influenced the election of the USA president, and then he gifted us Europe", Mr. Putin said.

The deal was signed on the day of Russian President Vladimir Putin's visit to Vienna, in what was his first trip to the West since visiting Finland in mid-2017 and being re-elected earlier this year.

A Trump-Russia summit could potentially echo a historic Cold War meeting in Austria between a newly elected President John F. Kennedy and the Soviet leader Nikita Khrushchev.

In a recent interview with the newspaper Oesterreich, Strache made his position clear.

"It's high time that we end these wretched sanctions and normalize our political and economic relations with Russia", Mr. Strache, Austria's deputy chancellor, told Austrian newspaper "Österreich". "What, did they 'annex Crimea, ' as many of our partners say?"

"It is not our aim to divide anything or anybody in Europe". "But now let me ask you: do you really think that a person who is in the restaurant business, even if this person has some hacking opportunities and owns a private firm engaged in this activity - I do not even know what he does - could use it to sway elections in the United States or a European country?"

"Indeed, Donald Trump and I have, firstly, met a couple of times at various worldwide venues", Putin said, according to an official transcript available on the Kremlin's website, CNBC reported. Asked by a young blogger whether the government had plans to shut down Instagram and YouTube, Putin insisted that it does not.

"It is not true".

"Overall, we are heading in the right direction", he said.

Under Russia's constitution, Putin is in his final six-year term as president, meaning, theoretically, he should step aside in 2024.

"My presidential term has just begun".
