Argentina replace injured Manuel Lanzini with River Plate star Enzo Perez

Manuel Lanzini

West Ham United star Manuel Lanzini will not play for Argentina at the 2018 World Cup finals in Russian Federation this summer due to injury.

The 25-year-old attacking midfielder is one of the best players at West Ham, and he did quite well during the 2017-18 campaign, scoring five goals and provided six assists in 23 Premier League starts.

West Ham United playmaker Manuel Lanzini was ruled out of the upcoming World Cup on Friday, when news broke that he has ruptured his anterior cruciate ligament while training with the Argentina squad ahead of the tournament.

This was confirmed by the Argentine Football Association on Saturday.

Perez, 32, who made his Argentina debut in 2009, was initially in the Albiceleste's 35-man provisional squad released by coach Jorge Sampaoli for the 2018 World Cup before he was dropped.

West Ham fans took to Twitter to express their disappointment at the news and with their superstar well in his recovery from a nasty injury.

Argentina are in Group D at Russian Federation 2018, beginning their campaign against Iceland on June 16.

Inter Milan captain and striker Mauro Icardi is expected to be called up as Lanzini's replacement.
