'I wish' I didn't pick Jeff Sessions as attorney general

Key Republican Trey Gowdy defends FBI against Trump attacks

Appearing on the CBN News show The Global Lane, Nunberg said Special Counsel Robert Mueller, Deputy Attorney General Rod Rosenstein, and Attorney General Sessions are treating Trump like he's a mafioso figure.

Gowdy, a member of the House Intelligence Committee and chairman of the House Oversight and Government Reform Committee, was one of nine members of Congress allowed to see classified information about Federal Bureau of Investigation informant Stefan Halper during briefings with the Justice Department last week.

Trump has been angry at Sessions for failing to protect him from the DOJ investigation into any links between his presidential campaign and Russian officials, who worked to get Trump elected.

Trump used his Twitter account to echo the comments of House oversight committee chairman Trey Gowdy, R-S.C., who has been using TV appearances to try to offer some nuanced support to Trump.

After The New York Times reported that Trump pressured Sessions to reverse his recusal from overseeing the Russian Federation probe in March 2017, the USA president confirmed his unhappiness over that decision in a tweet. "The president was." He added that unless a report on what the informant learned is turned over to Trump, "there's surely not going to be an interview".

Trump has publicly criticized the attorney general over his recusal, calling it a "terrible mistake for the country" in April.

Asked if Trump telling Sessions to reverse his recusal would constitute obstruction of justice, the SC congressman said, "I don't think so".

Concerning Sessions, Trump has expressed similar sentiments before, but the attorney general hasn't taken the hint to step down.

Trump has reportedly groused about Sessions' loyalty and for failing to provide adequate protection from investigators - and may have even attempted to get rid of him last summer, the Washington Post reported in February.

The president has cast the FBI's use of an informant as evidence the bureau was "spying" on his campaign, which Trump and his allies have suggested without evidence was at the behest of then-President Obama.

In an interview with Sean Hannity on Fox News, Giuliani said Trump "did know about the general arrangement" surrounding the payment, weeks after Trump denied any knowledge.

Sessions, one of Trumps biggest boosters during the 2016 campaign, recused himself in March 2017 from any investigations related to the campaign.

Mr. Gowdy has been briefed on the classified documents about the continuing investigation that Republicans sought.
