Kim Kardashian to ask Trump to pardon jailed grandmother

Kim Kardashian shares Wyoming experience on Instagram

A White House official confirmed Wednesday that Ms. Kardashian West had reached out to Mr. Kushner, who has been working on prisons and the sentencing issue, through his wife, Ivanka Trump, the president's eldest daughter. The 1994 indictment describes dozens of deliveries and drug transactions, many involving Johnson.

"Jared Kushner and Ivanka Trump have been fantastic in their support and in their advocacy for prison reform", Johnson said.

"There was a reason why I was looking at my Twitter at that moment", she told Mic.

Kardashian has spent several months reassessing her life's priorities and discovered a new passion: fighting for prison reform.

The reality TV star is reportedly slated to meet with Jared Kushner, White House senior adviser and son-in-law to the president, in her efforts to gain clemency for Alice Marie Johnson, 63.

The White House declined to comment on the visit.

Alyssa Milano has accused the New York Post of "unacceptable sexism" for a recent headline regarding Kim Kardashian's meeting with Donald Trump.

The reality star organised a meeting with the US President in a quest to free great-grandmother Alice Marie Johnson from prison.

Tretessa Johnson says her family's life changed forever when her mother was sentenced to life in federal prison.

Johnson's supporters say she has been a model prisoner.

Although he wasn't present at the meeting, husband Kanye West has recently voiced his admiration for President Trump, tweeting a photo of his signed Make America Great Again hat as well as a message saying, "the mob can't make me not love him". She fit all of the criteria for former President Barack Obama's Clemency Project 2014, but was denied just days before the end of his term.

Johnson was convicted in 1996 on eight criminal counts related to a Memphis-based cocaine trafficking operation involving more than a dozen people.

Earlier this month, the Selfish author revealed her plans to meet with the Celebrity Apprentice alum.

Johnson's case became worldwide news a year ago when Kardashian West tweeted about it which, in turn, led to her penning the star a heartfelt thank you letter. But prison reform is something that she's been vocal about in the past; on Monday, she tweeted her support for Matthew Charles, a former inmate who turned his life around after 21 years of incarceration.

She wrote: "I would like to thank President Trump for his time this afternoon".

Scholl added that Johnson has admitted her wrongdoing, which is borne out in letters she has written to U.S. District Judge Samuel H. Mays, who now oversees her case. "I'll do whatever it takes to get her out".
