President Donald Trump announced earlier this month that the United States would pull out of the Iran nuclear deal signed in 2015 between Iran and six world powers, including the United States.
The US has "deep enmity with" Iran, he said, adding that Washington intends to "destroy the power factors of the Islamic republic", Xinhua reported. Of course, there is one caveat in that claim and that is based on possible European Union refusal to adhere to USA stipulations over renewed Iranian sanctions.
Pompeo's vision: On Monday, US Secretary of State Mike Pompeo demanded all signatories negotiate a fresh treaty that would encompass not only Iran's nuclear program, but its defense and foreign policies as well.
Commenting on USA threats to ramp up sanctions on Iran, Ismail Kowsari said, "The people of Iran should stand united in the face of this and they will deliver a strong punch to the mouth of the American Secretary of State and anyone who backs them".
"We will apply unprecedented financial pressure, coordinate with [the military] on deterrence efforts, support the Iranian people.and hold out the prospects for a new deal with Iran", Pompeo said.
While Pompeo's remarks leave little doubt that the Trump Administration has Iran's nuclear ambitions and its growing influence in the Middle East, including the ongoing Syrian civil war, in its cross hairs, the impact, at least in the short to mid-term on oil markets will be muted.
Germany's foreign minister has reiterated Europe's determination to remain a part of the 2015 Iran nuclear deal even in the face of a USA withdrawal from the landmark agreement.

GETTYDominique de Villepin on Tuesday said France could not count itself among America’s closest allies
"Mr Pompeo and other US officials in the current administration are prisoners of their wrong illusions, prisoners of their past and have been taken hostage by corrupt pressure groups", he told state television.
Pompeo, Trump's former director of the Central Intelligence Agency, demanded major changes from Iran and said America will not allow the country to develop a nuclear weapon: "Not now, not ever".
Iran's top leader set out a series of conditions on Wednesday for European powers if they want Tehran to stay in a nuclear deal after the USA exit, including steps to safeguard trade with Tehran and guarantee its oil sales.
"Europe should fully guarantee Iran's oil sales".
In the wake of Trump's decision, the leaders of Great Britain, Germany and France called on other participants in the deal to continue fulfilling it.
