New Mario Tennis Aces Trailer Shows off Adventure Mode

Here’s When You Can Play The Mario Tennis Aces Beta Shannon Grixti

Nintendo will be holding a Pre-Launch Online Tournament from June 1-3 before the sports game arrives on the Switch on June 22.

The tournament starts at 3pm BST / 4pm CEST the very same day as the demo is released and it will end at 01:00 on June 5.

The English trailer doesn't touch on the more nuanced techniques and mechanics that we saw in the Japanese overview trailer, but you can take our word for it: Mario Tennis Aces is going to offer a lot of depth for those who want a more strategic arcade tennis experience. However, five additional characters will be unlockable with points accumulated through participation in the tournament and online stages. Similar to Splatoon's Global Testfire and ARMS' Global Testpunch, Aces will get an Online Tournament demo that will run for a few days to test server load.

This announcement also comes with a better look at the game's Adventure Mode in a short 43-second video. To participate in the pre-launch tournament, you will first have to download the free Pre-Launch Online Tournament demo from the Nintendo eShop when it becomes available in late May. Nintendo didn't say which characters will be unlockable during the beta. In Swing Mode, players can use their Joy-Con controllers like a tennis racket, swinging them to initiate the tennis swings in the game.

"Mario Tennis Aces" was announced by Nintendo during a surprise Direct livestream back in March. By participating in this limited-time demo event, players who purchase the full game will unlock the classic Mario outfit as a reward.

On top of the online tournaments, players can also get in some practice by playing one-off single-player tennis battles against a computer-controlled opponent*.
