Sixers looking to stay alive against Celtics in Game 5

Boston Celtics guard Jaylen Brown

The Celtics gutted out another dramatic victory over the Philadelphia 76ers, 114-112, in Game 5 on Wednesday, and will now face LeBron James and the Cleveland Cavaliers for a trip to the NBA Finals.

Jayson Tatum scored 25 points, Brown had 24 and Terry Rozier scored 17, sinking a pair of free throws to make it a four-point game with 9.8 seconds left after forcing Joel Embiid's turnover. But Stevens was having none of it when asked about the calls after Monday's loss, and reiterated that stance when asked again during a Tuesday conference call.

"The feeling right now is I didn't want to be done". I realize officials have a tough job. "I think tonight was a night where he really stepped up and gave us the energy and allowed everybody else to really feed off that". Embiid can obviously be a game-changer, but in this case he can be a series-changer.

"It had nothing to do with anything but Philadelphia and us". "So I need to be on my best".

Marcus Smart went from potential goat to hero very quickly for the Boston Celtics Wednesday night. "But we're going back to Boston and we'll play". The sequence was Marcus Smart in a nutshell. "It's a dogfight. We're going straight for the neck".

The Celtics will nearly certainly put forth a better effort back on their home floor for Game 5, so the Sixers will have to be better themselves in order to get this series back to Philly. Coach Brett Brown made some bench blunders - and the Sixers players missed more than their fair share of shots while also committing extremely costly turnovers at the worst possible times. "No question about it". Fourteen of those points came in the paint. "We weren't very good (in Game 4)".

The 76ers opened as six-point favorites; the total is at 204.5, according to sportsbooks monitored by OddsShark.

"They were an outstanding offensive rebounding team coming into the series", Stevens said. "We gotta finish the drill". They got one. S-, we did what we're supposed to do, we got one [on the road]. "So it comes down to making contact earlier, which is easier said than done". Redick also ran into foul trouble with five whistles.

Both teams came ready to play in Game 5, which was closely contested for much of the first half. The Celtics haven't lost a home game yet in these playoffs, with Rozier especially performing at a high level at TD Garden. "They had a lot to say in here".

"I didn't understand why it was a double-technical because I was just trying to get the ball and he was the one trying to swing", Embiid said.

While the young players on Boston's rosters have been huge in Boston's success, Brown said the veteran leadership of Horford has been just as important in helping hold things together throughout the season.
