Palestinians injured by Israeli gunfire on Gaza border

A Palestinian demonstrator uses a slingshot to hurl stones towards Israeli troops during clashes at a protest near the Gaza Israel border

Ashraf al-Qidra, the spokesperson for Gaza's health ministry, says 167 other people have been wounded due to live ammunition, tear gas, and rubber-coated steel bullets.

At least 41 protesters have been killed by Israel fire since the protests began in late March - with some estimates going as high as 53. The analysis was based on data collected by the Palestinian Ministry of Health in Gaza.

The rioters acted aggressively, burning tires, hurling stones and grenades in the direction of the security fence and Israeli soldiers, and launching burning kites.

For all the fanfare the Trump administration has planned - and contrary to President Donald Trump's boasts - the new U.S. Embassy to be opened in Jerusalem on Monday will be a decidedly modest affair, and probably a temporary one.

As the President stated on December 6, 2017, the historic opening of our embassy recognizes the reality that Jerusalem is the capital of Israel and the seat of its government.

The 40-year-old Palestinian was killed in the seventh consecutive week of protests on the border of the coastal enclave.

The protests are part of a campaign to break the blockade imposed by Israel and Egypt in 2007 after Hamas overran Gaza.

Israel says this is vital to prevent Hamas - which has fought three rounds of conflict against Israel since seizing Gaza, firing thousands of rockets into Israel and digging dozens of attack tunnels under the border - from importing weaponry. Israel will not allow the destruction of infrastructure at the border, said the IDF spokesperson.

The rights group accused Israel of the use of excessive force against Palestinian demonstrators.

Vandals later burned a fuel complex and a conveyor belt on the Palestinian side of Gaza's main cargo crossing with Israel, causing more than $US9 million in damages and disrupting the import of diesel fuel and building materials, the military said.

A Palestinian man is rushed to an ambulance at the border fence.

Spero also pointed out that the embassy is moving on May 14, which marks 70 years after the founding of Israel as the Jewish state in 1948. "They need to kill every last one of us to change the facts".
