IPL: Sunrisers Hyderabad beat Delhi Daredevils by 9 wickets

Mumbai Indian's Mitchell McClenaghan center celebrates one of his 11 wickets in the IPL thus far

It was a 176-run partnership, off just 102 balls after Alex Hales fell early.

Preview: Kane Williamson-led Sunrisers Hyderabad (SRH) is on a roll in the Indian Premier League (IPL) this season, and are now enjoying their life at the top of the points table. To SRH's agony, he was trapped plumb in front by Harshal Patel, which brought Kane Williamson at the wicket. "We are very fortunate to have the bowlers that we have... also the depth in the bowling".

Thereafter, experienced global pair Dhawan and Williamson led an utterly chanceless run-chase, with the latter bringing up a sixth IPL fifty of the season.

With five overs left in the innings, Delhi stared at some sort of respectability before another miscommunication between the batsmen ended Patel's stay.

SRH coach Tom Moody had insisted that "players like Shikhar Dhawan don't just disappear off the face of Earth" on the eve of the game and the Delhi star chose the flawless setting to roar back into form after a disappointing outing in the IPL so far.

But the next over changed that. Iyer soon got himself involved in a mix-up with Rishabh Pant and perished to a run-out.

"I was just trying to see the ball and hit it clean".

The boundary proved to be a turning point for the fates of the Daredevils as Iyer and Patel combined to tally 42 runs in three overs, taking their partnership to 50 runs in 30 balls including two sixes from Patel. The decision seemed to backfire as Jason Roy and Prithvi Shaw were dismissed by Shakib Al Hasan, which imparted pressure on them.

However, young Pant carried on his fine form and smashed his first IPL hundred to swing the momentum back in favour of the hosts.

In the final over, Bhuvaneshwar Kumar dismissed Glen Maxwell for nine runs with an off stump delivery which the Australian miscued to gift Alex Hales an easy catch. Pant has completed this record in 20 years and 218 days. Which he did by smashing Bhuvneshwar.

Chasing 188 runs for victory, Sunrisers Hyderabad reached the target with 7 balls to spare and 9 wickets in hand.

The visitors overcame the challenging chase with visible ease to remain at the top of the table with an extension in their lead over second placed Chennai Super Kings.

He had been one of the few bright spots for the Daredevils this season with three half-centuries to his name.
