North Korea is mad because Trump won't give Kim credit for peace

Clocks show time in Seoul left and Pyongyang at the Peace House in the demilitarised zone in the border village

After North Korean leader Kim Jong-un opened up with his neighbours and also the United States, all parties concerned are having regular diplomatic engagements at various levels in the run-up to the eagerly awaited meeting between the former and US President Donald Trump. He however added that an announcement in this regard will be made soon.

Following April's historic summit between North and South Korea, which saw both countries sign a pledge to work toward their "common goal" of denuclearizing the Korean peninsula, Trump praised his administration's work in keeping maximum pressure on the North for leading both nations to come together in peace.

The newspaper also suggested that the possibility of Singapore playing host to the talks had grown significantly after a decision by Trump to have South Korean President Moon Jae-in visit the White House on May 22.

"The deliberately provoking the DPRK at the time when the situation on the Korean Peninsula is moving toward peace and reconciliation", said a spokesperson for the communist regime. A similar report on the weekend from South Korea's Yonhap news agency also said Singapore was firming as the favoured location for the summit.

North and South Korea are technically still at war because their 1950-53 conflict ended in a truce, not a peace treaty.

The map is a blueprint for economic cooperation between North Korea and South Korea and includes three "belts": one along the eastern coast and Russian border for energy and resources, another along the western coast for transportation and logistics, and a third across the land border for tourism.

On Sunday, North Korean officials criticized claims that Trump's tough stance and push for worldwide sanctions against Pyongyang were responsible for bringing Kim to the negotiating table.

Japan's stance on maintaining the pressure on North Korea could be at odds with the other two sides but Tokyo is the only country which has found itself on the sidelines of the peace effort more than anybody else despite the fact that North Korea's nuclear testings often posed a grave threat to its territory.

North Korea has also described movement of United States military assets in to the region as "a risky attempt to ruin the hard earned atmosphere of dialogue and bring the situation back to square one".

Japan "will never be able to set foot on (North Korea's) sacred land, even in 100 million years", the paper said in an online commentary.
