Mosque blasts kill dozens in northeast Nigeria

Bomb reportedly explodes inside mosque in Adamawa

Several people were on Tuesday killed in suicide blasts in Mubi town, Adamawa.

They were transferred to the Federal Medical Centre in Yola for treatment. "More bodies were being brought by families of the victims".

In recent months, Boko Haram's activities had been concentrated in the far north of the state around Madagali, near the boundary with Borno State.

So far no group has claimed responsibility for the attacks, but it fits the pattern of Boko Haram terror activity in the region which has taken hundreds of lives over the years.

The jihadist group on Thursday carried out an attack in Maiduguri, capital of neighbouring Borno state, that killed four people.

Nigeria has bought a dozen A-29 Super Tucano light fighter aircraft in a $496-million (413-million-euro) deal.

USA military officials in Abuja have recently questioned Nigerian tactics faced with guerilla tactics from Boko Haram.

"People were heading to the mosque for prayers when the suicide bomber struck", said the official who preferred to be anonymous.

He detonated his explosives "five minutes before the prayer started", he added. "This is obviously the work of Boko Haram".

Jibrilla, who was represented by his media aide, Macaulay Hunohashi, said the state commissioner of health has been directed to move to the local government to assist the surviving victims of the attack.

Boko Haram held territory in Adamawa state in 2014 but troops pushed the insurgents out in early 2015 and Mubi was relatively peaceful until a suicide bomb attack in November 2017 that killed 50 people.
