Elevated fire danger this afternoon, weather service says

Fire Weather Watch Issued for Minnesota Wisconsin

The StormTracker 19 Forecast calls for dry, breezy conditions, along with warm temperatures that are all elements that contribute to the potential for fires.

The National Weather Service has issued a "Red Flag" warning for most of northern IL, out of fear that strong winds, dry conditions and warm temperatures have created a flawless opportunity for fires to quickly get out of control.

Burning bans remain in place in the area.

The National Weather Service is predicting a week with lots of sunshine, a little bit of rain and temperatures in the 60s, 70s, and dare-we-say low 80s?! DNR officials are asking the public to be careful with campfires, outdoor grills and smoking that could throw off a spark and ignite a fire. A Red Flag Warning means that critical fire weather conditions are either occurring now.or will shortly. They urge extreme caution during these unusually risky conditions.

Strong winds and dry conditions with low humidity present a risk for fire spread.

The DNR states it responded to 25 wildfires in Wisconsin Saturday, mostly because of burning debris. Any brush fires could spread quickly, and you're urged to exercise caution.

The high fire danger will continue tomorrow as well, with highs in the upper 70s to lower 80s, winds gusting over 30 miles per hour out of the southwest, and low relative humidities continuing. A large number of outstate counties are under the same restrictions.
