East Texans selected by pro teams during the 2018 NFL Draft

Jamil Demby had tears in his eyes because he usually doesn't see his father, Shane Demby, cry.

"I'm ecstatic. It's just insane", said Demby, who watched the final day of the draft with family and friends at his home in Vineland, New Jersey. "I can't explain how awesome it is".

The reaction? "It got insane and loud here", he said.

Former Rutgers defensive tackle Sebastian Joseph was chosen in the sixth round of the 2018 NFL Draft by the Los Angeles Rams on Saturday. The Spartans have had 309 players drafted total, including 36 in the first round.

Demby, who will graduate in May with a degree in kinesiology, visited with the Rams recently and made an impression.

"Yeah, I've been on the punt team in college the last two years".

"I don't think there's a better spot", said Maine Coach Joe Harasymiak.

Jamil Demby of the University of ME is headed to the National Football League. He's not the quickest guy, so being on the interior will work wonders for him. He's got the ability.

"I was technically a middle linebacker, but I played all over the field".

He ranked third in the Big 12 among active players with 274 career tackles.
