Following Avicii'sshocking death at age 28 on Friday, the family of the Swedish DJ has released a statement thanking friends and fans for the outpouring of love and tributes in the following days.
Avicii, 28, was found dead last Friday, two years after announcing his retirement from touring amid recurring health scares.
"We would like to thank you for the support and the loving words about our son and brother", it read. I'm still collecting my thoughts and thank you all for the kind words and texts.
"It is with profound sorrow that we announce the loss of Tim Bergling, also known as Avicii", publicist Diana Baron said in a statement.
They added they would make no more statements and asked people to respect their privacy. The statement declines to discuss the reason for Avicii's death, though Oman Police have ruled out any foul play. In 2017, he unveiled the EP Avīci (01).The DJ's best known for chart-topping singles "Levels", "Wake Me Up" and "Hey Brother", among others.
Avicii was part of the wave of DJ-producers, like David Guetta, Calvin Harris and Swedish House Mafia, who broke out on the scene as lead performers in their own right, earning global hits, fame, awards and more like typical pop stars.
Avicii told Billboard magazine he chose to stop touring in 2016 for health reasons.
Avicii, who acknowledged his problems in the sole lyric to the song "Alcoholic", died while on vacation in Oman. "He had promised me he would stop drinking, and when I saw him he was drunk that night", Nile explained.
David Guettapaid tribute to his contemporary, with whom he worked on a number of songs including "Lovers on the Sun" and "Sunshine", during a recent live DJ set where he played "Wake Me Up".
Avicii's longtime manager is in deep "pain" and "despair" as he tries to come to terms with the death of his superstar client.
Fellow British DJ Calvin Harris called his death "devastating news", adding on Twitter that Avicii was: "a handsome soul, passionate and extremely talented with so much more to do". Choose me, and I'll show you love.' Those are lyrics from a song Tim wrote for me.
