More than 2,700 protests were planned across the country Friday, on the 19th anniversary of the Columbine High School shooting.

It's in observance of the 19th Anniversary of the Columbine High School shooting. "We have to do it and these students I think are going to force the issue one way or the other", said former Congressman Ron Barber, who was wounded during the January 8 2011 Tucson shooting.

The students were met by close to a dozen of armed gun-rights supporters who waved American flags and used megaphones to shout at them. A large number of state troopers were also on hand. NEISD gave students unexcused absences for participating in the walkout.

These demonstrations came on the heels-of-pushes for stricter gun control following the deadly Valentine's Day shooting at a high school in Parkland, Florida.

According to the students who walked out at UNLV, when it comes to gun laws in the United States, there is more that needs to be done.

"It's a student movement and I think we're the ones that need to be using our voices", she said.

They carried signs that said "Guns Are Not School Supplies", and "Enough". "Ultimately what we want are safe schools and a safe nation".

"Society has changed since I was a kid", said Bill Woods, Marion County Sheriff. However, faculty and staff were willing to work with students if anyone did want to do something regarding the walkout or an alternative, but none of the students chose to do so. "For news media such as yourself to pay attention", said Janel Anderson, a social studies teacher at Middleton High School.

"There was a young lady in Chicago shot at the age of 15 and at her funeral everyone wore orange, and orange is the color hunters wear to not get shot", Attleson said. And if we don't keep addressing the issue then and constantly beg Congress to listen to us, if we don't do that then they won't.
