Samsung phone design patent shows iPhone X-esque notch

The Galaxy J2 Pro doesn't work with 3G 4G or even Wi-Fi

Well, it could be partly possible thanks to Samsung's new phone.

Samsung has today announced the launch of a new Orchid Gray colour variant of its flagship device - Galaxy Note 8.

Like numerous iPhone X-like notched Android devices that are now hitting the market, the notch in question appears smaller, quite likely because it doesn't house the exotic 3D facial recognition technology found in the iPhone X notch.

The phone in the patent application looks akin in design to Apple's iPhone X, the Essential Phone and others.

"It really comes down to personal preference when you are talking about high-end phones these days", Richard Fisco, Consumer Reports' head of smartphone testing, was quoted as saying.

Samsung had launched the Galaxy Note 8 in India in September past year in Midnight Black and Maple Gold color options and now the company is bringing the Orchid Gray color variant to India.

A report by GSMArena in February found the smartphone listed on the popular benchmarking platform, Geekbench, where it was spotted with the Exynos 7870 chipset, which also powers the Galaxy J5 (2017). Both the handsets survived 50 drops without a problem, and S9 made it through 100 drops with just "minor scratches". It also stated that the phone is good for the grannies and grandpas who have no interest in dipping their feet into the world of Twitter or Instagram.

This giant 6.3-inch device is packed with features including a stunning curved design, fast processor and inclusion of Samsung's clever S Pen stylus which tucks neatly inside the glass and metal case. They observed issues like over-sharpening of images and an underwhelming battery life. Samsung isn't a stranger when it comes to pulling technology that isn't ready as it did with the fingerprint sensor under the display that was pinned for the Galaxy S9 since the technology wasn't seen fit for release.

According to recent reports, Samsung has been working on two budget smartphones for 2018 called the Galaxy J4 and Galaxy J6.
