Emir of Qatar says his nation condemns terrorism

Amid Crisis and Scandal, Emir of Qatar to Meet Trump Tuesday

When the Persian Gulf crisis erupted last summer, Trump was initially sympathetic to concerns voiced by Saudi Arabia, the UAE, Bahrain and Egypt who accused Qatar of spreading extremism, fomenting opposition in the region and cozying up to Iran. "We've been cooperating with the United States of America to stop funding terrorism around the region".

President Trump says the US and Qatar are continuing to work closely on ensuring terrorism funding is halted in the Middle East, although he once accused the nation of Qatar of funding terrorism at a "high level." .

Trump said the United Arab Emirates, Saudi Arabia, Qatar and others that were previously funding terrorism had stopped such activities.

Drawing a line under a spat that called into question the future of a key USA air base in the Gulf State, Trump hosted Emir Tamim bin Hamad Al-Thani in the Oval Office.

Qatar has sought to stress its role as a reliable and agreeable US partner in a strategically vital region.

The emir will also be joining the president for a working lunch that the White House said would focus on security and economic issues.

Qatar's Sheikh Tamim bin Hamad Al Thani can be on the White Home on Tuesday.

The State Department made the announcement in a statement on Monday, saying Qatar was an "important force for political stability in the region".

Trump hasn't repeated that cost lately and Qatar has since taken steps to deal with USA considerations. Qatar denies all those charges. Trump as soon as accused the tiny gas-rich nation of funding terrorism at a "excessive stage".

Qatar's Sheikh Tamim bin Hamad Al Thani will be at the White House on Tuesday.

Qatar, he said then, was a "funder of terror at a very high level", and he demanded that it cut off that money flow to rejoin the circle of responsible nations. Qatar denies that charge but has taken steps to address USA concerns.

A top fundraiser for Trump also filed a lawsuit last month against Qatar and lobbyists working for the state, alleging they hacked his and his wife's emails as part of the ongoing dispute.
