The state-run Korean Central News Agency (KCNA) issued commentary about two weeks after that finally hinted at confirmation for the upcoming meeting between North Korea, the US and South Korea. Till then Washington was yet to hear directly from Pyongyang on the invitation extended by Kim via South Korean intermediaries. But while North Korea seems to have at least paused its nuclear activity for the time being, the rogue nation has not confirmed any sort of agenda for the meeting at this point, and giving up their prized nuclear weapons indefinitely be an unexpected result.
In a growing rapprochement on the Korean peninsula, Kim is scheduled to meet the South's president Moon Jae-in for a rare inter-Korean summit on April 27.
Bolton, in a March interview, said that his preference will be for precisely a Libya-style settlement of North Korea's nuclear program, which remains both unrealistic and dead on arrival.
The North Korean leader discussed the "prospect of the DPRK-U.S. dialogue" as well as "strategic and tactical issues to be maintained" by the party, "including the future policy of global relations and the orientation corresponding to them", according to KCNA.
Trump agreed last month to a landmark summit with the nuclear-armed North - which would be the first between a sitting U.S. president and a North Korean leader - but no specific dates or venue have been set, with questions mounting over Pyongyang's participation.
"The surest way for the summit to end in disaster is if President Trump enters with the false belief that denuclearization of the Korean Peninsula means Kim Jong Un unilaterally surrendering his nuclear weapons", Narang said.
"The United States has made zero concessions, but North Korea has made some promises", press secretary Sarah Huckabee Sanders said to reporters.
On Monday, Mr Trump said he planned to meet Mr Kim in "May or early June".
The Korean Times' report of the dinner speculates that Mr Chung felt comfortable asking the question because in Korea, age is still taken much like rank - the the older the person, the more senior they are. The U.S. later heard from other countries including China, where Kim paid a rare visit, that the North was serious about the offer. Secret talks on the specifics are said to be ongoing.
During Monday's key party meeting, Kim also explained "the strategic and tactical issues to be maintained by the WPK including the future policy of worldwide relations and the orientation corresponding to them", KCNA said without elaborating on further details.
