Kyrie Irving Out For Rest Of Season After Knee Surgery

Kyrie Irving

Boston Celtics point guard Kyrie Irving will miss the playoffs in order to have surgery on his troublesome left knee.

The Celtics announced that Irving will make a full recovery in 4-5 months, which would span the rest of the regular season and playoffs, due to a knee injury he suffered earlier this season.

Irving will undergo a procedure on Saturday to remove two screws inserted in his left patella at the time of the procedure, the team said. Irving, a five-time All-Star, averaged 24.4 points, 5.1 assists and 3.8 rebounds this season, his first in Boston. This season was only a snapshot of what's to come from me.

Irving has been in dazzling form for the Celtics this season after his blockbuster move from the Cleveland Cavaliers in 2017.

With Irving out, the Celtics' chances of competing in the East are severely diminished - and the conference playoffs could be wide open.

The Celtics are 53-25 and in second place in the Eastern Conference but have been bothered by injuries all season, starting with Gordon Hayward in Boston's first game in October.

Following his original procedure last month, the team had said the knee was structurally sound and the kneecap healed, but the wire had been putting pressure on the knee. Trust Me. "The journey back to the top of Mt. Everest continues". The Toronto Raptors are poised to be the top-seeded team behind DeMar DeRozan and Kyle Lowry. The Celtics will now rely on guard Terry Rozier, who has filled in admirably during Irving's absence, but is no Kyrie Irving. Bench forward Daniel Theis is out for the season. With the Celtics all but locked into the No. 2 seed they would likely play Miami, Washington or Milwaukee in the first round.
