Here's Why 'X-Men: Dark Phoenix' and 'New Mutants' Were Delayed

Fox Delays X Men Movies

The film will add a few new characters to round out the movie, as well as make it scarier, overhauling the majority of the film.

20th Century Fox's other property, New Mutants, is also in the process of even more significant reshoots after having its release date delayed almost an entire year.

Bohemian Rhapsody, based on the life of Freddie Mercury, will now open on November 2 this year which was supposed to be the release date for X-Men's upcoming installment.

As a result, the horror-driven X-Men spinoff "The New Mutants" is moving from February 22, 2019 to August 2, 2019.

Considering that New Mutants was originally scheduled to release in only a matter of weeks before being delayed the first time not too long ago, and now being delayed again does not seem to bode well for its quality and success.

Dark Phoenix takes place ten years after the events of X-Men: Apocalypse and focuses on telepath Jean Grey (played by Game of Thrones star Sophie Turner).

After testing the film, 20th Century Fox has elected to bring the film back into production ahead of its release.

20th Century Fox's slate of X-Men movies has officially been reshuffled. Though New Mutants star Maisie Williams claimed the reshoots for the film weren't going to be extensive, a new report indicates Fox has planned significant reshoots for both X-Men movies.

The Kid Who Would Be King from writer/director Joe Cornish was moved from February 14, 2019 to March 1, 2019.

X-Men: Dark Phoenix has flown the coop.

In New Mutants, five young mutants, just discovering their abilities while held in a secret facility against their will, fight to escape their past sins and save themselves.

The New Mutants, Josh Boone's horror-tinged take on Marvel's teen heroes, stars Anya Taylor-Joy, Maisie Williams and Charlie Heaton, and had earlier jumped from April 13 to February 22, 2019.

Fox has shifted the date for its next release in the X-Menmovie franchise.

ComicBook.com has learned that Dark Phoenix's release date is changing as a result of a decision Fox made to rework portions of the film following test screenings.
