India bears the world's highest burden of TB, with approximately a quarter of all TB cases in the world. This is five years ahead of the 2030 deadline set by other countries.
The WHO has designated March 24 of each year as World TB Day to encourage global efforts to combat TB together.
She noted that young people are also key in ending the epidemic that is the most deadly infectious disease in the globe, according to the World Health Organisation (WHO). Over 95% of TB deaths occur in low- and middle-income countries.
