A MASSIVE fire has tonight erupted at a high-rise Dublin hotel.
Dublin Fire Brigade says it's had four engines on the scene overnight to dampen down and extinguish hot spots after the huge blaze at the Metro Hotel.
Families who fled the hotel were reportedly evacuated to the nearby Clayton Hotel.
"We understand from the hotel staff that all of the people living in the accommodation and residents of the hotel got out safely", Mr McAuliffe said.
Gardaí have begun an investigation into the cause of a the major blaze which engulfed several floors on Wednesday night. According to the eyewitness John Sheridan, "at least five floors" of the building may be covered by a flame.
Local police the Gardai said: "Diversions in place at Santry Cross, Ballymun Road due to an incident".
It is not yet known if the upper storeys of the hotel were occupied at the time the fire broke out. The Metro Hotel released a statement on Thursday afternoon confirming its closure because of the fire.
It adds that access to personal belongings located in the hotel and apartments "is restricted" until clearance is received from emergency services.
