Jaguars cut WR Hurns, save $7 million

Jaguars are paying Donte Moncrief $9.6 million in 2018

The Jacksonville Jaguars released wide receiver Allen Hurns on Tuesday, a move that drew a quick reaction from the newest member of the Chicago Bears receiving corps, Allen Robinson.

Hurns will visit with the New York Jets on Wednesday, according to ESPN's Adam Schefter. However, many expected that Lewis would retain a roster spot as the Jaguars looked to make the playoffs in consecutive seasons for the first time in Lewis' career.

McCray signed as an unrestricted free agent with Jacksonville on March 10, 2017, and posted a career-high nine special teams tackles in 13 appearances in his first season with the Jaguars. His flight to NY was cancelled due to weather, according to Pro Football Talk.

Lewis, 33, appeared in 170 games for the Jaguars and produced 375 catches for 4,502 yards and 33 touchdowns in 12 seasons with the team.

Hurns is a 6-foot-3, 201 pound wide out who went undrafted out of Miami (FL.) in 2014. He totaled 961 yards and five touchdowns combined the past two years while missing 11 regular season games.

In 2016, a severe hamstring injury limited the talented receiver.

By releasing Allen Hurns, the Jags save $7 million against their salary cap.

Fans of the franchise will certainly miss the veteran tight end, especially after his impassioned letter published by the Players' Tribune in January.

Though it's no guarantee Hurns will now visit the Jets, the team has given other receivers a look.
