Butler Basketball: Keys for the Bulldogs in their rematch against Purdue

The Bulldogs jumped out to a 21-2 led less than seven minutes into the first half and advanced to the second round of the tournament, and a date with in-state rival and No. 2 seed Purdue, with a 79-62 win over Arkansas, but the game was no where near as simple as it sounds.

That moral victory ideally would not have been Arkansas' bright spot from this NCAA Tournament.

"Butler did good tonight by making tough shots, getting rebounds, getting key stops", said Barford, who led Arkansas with 15 points.

The seventh-seeded 23-11 Razorbacks, one of eight SEC teams in this season's Big Dance, and the 10th-seeded 20-13 Bulldogs of Indianapolis, Ind. and the Big East, learned on Sunday night's NCAA Tournament selection show that they are matched in Friday's first round East Regional in Detroit. Baldwin wasn't far behind, dropping 24 points on nine-of-17 from the field. So they are in Arkansas' ballpark, 374 miscues vs. 492 opponents' miscues in 34 games. The Bulldogs finished with two losses to end up at 9-9 in the Big East but beat Providence in the Big East tournament before falling to Villanova in the semifinals.

"We had just went through that on the other side and I know that we never quit", Wideman said. They like to run. "It was about the next play, so mentally that help us keep a poise about us even when they made that big run".

A little over six minutes into Friday's NCAA Tournament first-round matchup against Arkansas, Butler led by 19 points. "I think the fans are the winners". Guys that can handle the ball inside and outside. "They missed some open shots as well". "They are a skilled team". The Dawgs also showed just how risky this team can be when both Martin and Baldwin are firing on all cylinders. "It took all of us out there to shrink the court, and that's what we did", Baldwin said. "He's a left-handed kid". Both of those guys have gotten over 100 assists throughout the year. The Bulldogs played like there was no tomorrow, and for the Hogs that is the stark reality.

The Razorbacks came into Friday's game shooting 40.1 percent on three-pointers for the season.

" Our defense has to be an all-time high in this particular game", Anderson said of applying pressure intensely yet prudently. But they've got bigger goals in mind. "That's what you get in the tournament - they let you play". "Up in Milwaukee past year, our fans were great and we know the are going to be traveling up to Detroit as well".

"I didn't think Daniel had one of his better games", University of Arkansas, Fayetteville Coach Mike Anderson said.

One plus for Arkansas.

The Bulldogs went 10-3 through their non-conference slate this season, with a win over Ohio State and losses to Texas and Purdue. He can pass Darrin Fitzgerald for second on the school's career scoring list with 29 points and needs 18 rebounds to leapfrog the late Joel Cornette for No. 10 on Butler's career list.

"We have to make sure we respond and have a good plan for that", Jordan said. "They're a really good, really talented team". We are anxious about that one, and that one only. "And then whatever comes after that we'll be prepared for when the time comes".
