Buzzer-Beater Lifts Loyola-Chicago Over Miami In NCAA Opening Round

People are convinced Loyola's fans are secretly all in Gryffindor

The Loyola-Chicago Ramblers, one of the most popular Cinderella teams entering the NCAA Tournament, has just upset the Miami Hurricanes in dramatic fashion. All Walker had to do was drop in a pair of free throws. Loyola needed to foul.

PITTSBURGH, PA - Second seed Duke had little trouble putting away 15th seed Iona 89-67 in their Midwest Region battle.

But, with 9.3 seconds left and Miami at the foul line with a 62-61 lead, reality began to set in at Ireland's that Loyola might fall just short. They looked they'd have another shot at that until Ingram's stunner.

Sister Jean is known to lead the Ramblers in a prayer and give the team a scouting report on the opposing team before tip-off.

"It's definitely a dagger to the heart", Walker told reporters during a postgame news conference. "They hit that three that basically won the game for them".

The buzzer sounded as Ingram's shot went in, and the team celebrated wildly in front of the raucous fans wearing maroon-and-gold scarfs in the sections across from their bench.

Donte Ingram picked the flawless spot for his game-winning shot.

Together they had resurrected a program fallen on hard times, yet success in March had been hard to achieve. The 0.3 seconds on the clock was just enough time for a catch-and-shoot. Walker would probably be a first-round pick if he heads to the National Basketball Association draft. The games against Michigan State and Duke will be massive for Kansas but so too will be the game against eighth seeded Seton Hall. After the game, Ingram and Sister Jean shared a celebratory hug 25 years in the making. Walker came in with even more hype after playing in the McDonald's All-American Game amid raising talks of lottery potential.

The loss of Brown in late January had a silver lining; the sophomore would be back for the ACC Tournament.

But, honestly who really cares about how good your bracket is doing if you're a Tennessee basketball fan.

Bruce Brown on the court without a boot. For almost 10 minutes, the guard was basically invisible. "We know deep down from looking at the film and getting our confidence right that we could play with those guys".

When redshirt junior guard Clayton Custer nailed a three-pointer to tie the game with under two minutes remaining, the room reached a fever-pitch.

If this is the end for Walker in Coral Gables, Fla., it will be a performance he'll try to forget forever.

Even before Donte Ingram's shot left his hands, carrying the hopes and prayers of Loyola-Chicago fans and the Ramblers' NCAA Tournament destiny with it, Sister Jean Dolores-Schmidt knew that Ingram would be the one to take the shot.

At times this year, Miami (22-10) seemed like a team which could be Larranaga's best ever and capitalizing would be critical. The only problem was they had to go the length of the court. "The moments, she said, are not as holy as some might guess: In between invocations, she also warns the players to watch out for the opponent's top performers". Our team is so great, and they don't care who makes the points, as long as we win the game. After the upset of Miami, freshman guard and Chicago native Lucas Williamson said the first thing he said to fellow Chicagoan Donte Ingram was "This is for the city".
