The Special Task Force Code name Operation Safe Haven in Plateau central Nigeria have confirmed that two of its personnel died following Tuesday clash between Natives and herdsmen in Rafiki community of Bassa local goverment area of the state.
Meantime, the Governor in a broadcast to the citizenry, said, "Let me assure our citizens that some arrests have already been made and the suspects will be arraigned before the relevant authorities in no distant future".
The attacks come after at least 75 people were killed in a string of attacks by Fulani herdsmen on the predominantly Christian community of Miango, also in Bassa, in January.
Following the incident, Punch reports, Governor Simon Lalong called an emergency security meeting from where a decision to impose a 6PM to 6AM curfew was taken. As troops moved in to settle the dispute, the herdsmen opened fire on troops convoy. Two soldiers paid the supreme price and seven suspects were arrested in connection with the clashes.
The army said while conducting a search, 23 dead bodies were discovered while some weapons were recovered. 2 other soldiers wounded are receiving medical attention at 3 Division Military Hospital and Medical Services.
Meanwhile, seven people were killed and one injured in an attack on Hirshi, a village in Bassa Local Government of Plateau, Maj.
Earlier, the president of the Miango Youths Development Association, Lawrence Zongo, told newsmen that "there was a fresh attack this ( Wednesday ) around 6.30am on Dung Kasa, Rafiki and Dutse communities".
But the Nigerian Army, only confirmed the death of the two soldiers.
The President, however, urged Nigerians to spread the message of peace to their subjects, insisting that the government alone can not guarantee peace and order in the country.
