Turkish soldier martyred in Afrin, Syria

Turkey Opposition member questions US support for PKK

The Syrian regime has chosen to ally itself with the Kurdish YPG in its fight against Turkey in Afrin, despite being at odds elsewhere in Syria.

"Hey NATO where are you?" Erdogan said in remarks to supporters in Bolu, a city east of Istanbul.

"We will not give Afrin to Erdoğan even if we are subjected to airstrikes for months or years", said Fikriye Reşid, and 58-year-old woman who came from Qamishlo to Afrin to be a human shield.

Turkey's foreign ministry voiced "deep concern" about the attacks and said on Sunday that the incident in Lauffen had been claimed by a group affiliated with the banned Kurdistan Workers Party (PKK).

According to RT, the Turkish leader also reiterated his earlier statements, that his only goal in Syria was the "fight against terrorism". Ankara is wary of the presence of Kurdish militants close to its borders in Syria, and has been opposed to Washington's efforts to train and arm them in the Arab country.

People are planning to act as human shields in an effort to protect the Syrian city of Afrin as the Turkish military and its allied forces prepare to capture the Kurdish-controlled urban centre. The recent UNSC resolution, which urged a 30-days Syria-wide ceasefire, has been also used to call upon Erdogan to halt the invasion.

"Several hundred more are still on the roads" heading out of the region, the Britain-based Observatory said.

He added that Turkey would continue to closely monitor developments in Germany. The document, however, only stated that the ceasefire did not apply to such groups as Islamic State (IS, formerly ISIL/ISIS), Al-Qaeda and Al-Nusra front, and did not describe any Kurdish militias as terrorists. The latter has been fighting for an autonomous region inside Turkey since 1984. Some US-backed militias in Syria have switched their priorities from fighting IS terrorists to battling Turkish troops and affiliated FSA militants.
