Mario Comes to Google Maps

Above Mario on Google Map

With Mario Day set for March 10 (because Mar10 spells "Mario"), there are many ways to celebrate your favourite character from Nintendo's line up.

Google Maps and Nintendo announced a temporary, opt-in feature that allows users to "navigate the world as Mario".

There will be a yellow question mark in the bottom right of the updated app. Tap on this, and a message will pop up prompting you enable "Mario Time".

Nintendo and Google have teamed up to celebrate National Mario Day (which is actually March 10th) with a special Google Maps tribute to Mario Kart.

Super Mario Run can be found on both Google Play and the Apple App Store.

Once enabled, you'll see that the navigation arrow has morphed into-who else?-Mario.

I have a feeling this little trick may have something to do with the upcoming smartphone game Mario Kart Tour, which is set to come out anytime between April 2018 and March 2019.

It's cool seeing something new on Google Maps, especially when it comes to getting a new navigation cursor like Mario. "He'll be a constant companion wherever you're driving this week-to work, to school, or the spaghetti house". Just keep in mind to practice safe driving on the road-we don't encourage throwing bananas or red shells at other drivers in real life! Google Maps also offers "street view", an option that lets a user see what it looks like on the ground in any given location.
