Burnley 2 Everton 1

It was Coleman who set up Cenk Tosun's opener and he gave everything to keep Burnley out after Ashley Williams' sending off but in the end the pressure proved to be too much, with goals from Ashley Barnes and Chris Wood condemning Everton to another loss.

There have been less goals in matches involving Burnley than any other side in the league and they have netted just ten times at home this season, fewer than any other team.

Blues supporters voiced their frustration at Allardyce's decision to replace Tosun with Oumar Niasse mid-way through the second-half with the score at 1-1.

However, despite the fact Burnley have not won since the second week of December and Everton have not picked up three away points since the same weekend, both teams are still enjoying relative safety in the top half of the table.

Having been surprise contenders for Champions League places earlier in the season, Burnley went through a very hard phase which finally came to an end.

Republic of Ireland and Everton midfielder James McCarthy could be back playing football in time for the start of the new Premier League season as he continues his recovery from a double leg fracture.

"I think individually, all of us, we weren't good enough".

Everton's misery was compounded when defender Ashley Williams was sent- off late on for elbowing Barnes.

Asked about the crowd's response to Tosun's withdrawal, Allardyce said: "It happens".

"I feel worse than the fans - they won't believe this - but it's my responsibility", he said. I go home and say to myself 'How do I put this right?' For me to see the players under-perform in the second half is very disappointing for me.

Lennon, who made 77 appearances for Everton, returned to action for the Merseyside club in August having not been part of the match-day squad for the final nine games of the 2016-17 season.

Sensing, perhaps, that his side could hurt the visitors' shaky defence with more height up front, Dyche introduced Wood at half time and he wasted no time in hassling ex-Claret Michael Keane into conceding a corner that caused momentary panic in Everton's penalty area.

"We know it is going to be a tough game, we know what to expect from Burnley". However, Burnley was ruthless in their approach as they continuously kept haunting the Everton goal and finally found a breakthrough when Barnes scored a sensational equaliser on a creative lay off from Matthew Lowton.
